Well first night in our glorious gite over and I rose at 5am and watched a couple of episodes of Shameless befitting the land of culture where I currently reside. I was tempted to get one over on the cockerels by hammering out 500 miles by the Proclaimers before they rose, but fear of instant eviction and potential of madame guillotine prevented me. Needless to say when I fell asleep again at 06.30, the cockerels gave it laldy at 07.00 when I was well in the land of nod.
We visited Chateau de Hautefort this morning and Karla will provide the update later....probably about Saturday. It was beautiful and I will return tonight to try and get some sunset shots.
We had lunch at the village restaurant that was recommended by our hostess and specialises in Foie Gras. I had a dish called L'assiette du Troubadour which consisted of Foie Gras of Duck on a bed of raspberries sitting on a slice of lightly fried gingerbread, this was then presented with chestnuts, onion jam, crab apple and fig. The foie gras was a melt in your mouth moment and I take my hat off to the duck that was force fed for my pleasure. Karls had a veal dish and Kiera had beef and chips, which unknown to her was of the mallard variety, she loved it and maybe has a more adventurous food palate somewhere. I followed up with a slice of apple tart, slice of hazelnut tart, homemade ice-cream and creme anglais. Needless to say this afternoon will be spent in the gite and hot-tub with an obligatory snooze in between.
Yesterday's Chablis lasted to 6pm, so we have purchased a Muscadet and Chablis for tonight and Karls is trying the famous Dordogne dish of Spag Bol.
French question of the day; Why do French woman keep visiting the male toilets when there are Femme facilities next door?Don't know if I have suddenly obtained the Lynx effect. On this holiday I have met 4 of the opposite sex in the male lavatories!

Are you sure they are female???
ReplyDeleteLets get this one straight!
ReplyDeleteA Chablis does not, indeed MUST NOT be left until 6 pm the next day. There are more serious sins than that to be committed - but I can't think of any at the moment!!
