Cockalldoodleday

Day 8: Hauteforte, Dordogne.

Woke up with the sun streaming into our 17th century gite, having thankfully slept through the local dawn chorus – although we appear to have number of somewhat confused cockerels in this part of France as they appear to be crowing morning, noon and night!! I have to say though, it still beats the buzz of the blackberry – for now at least.
After a visit to the local boulangerie we set off for Hauteforte Chateau (only a mile down the road) – incredible history and breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys.
Highlight of the day was lunch in a tiny restaurant in the medieval village at the foot of the castle – this was recommended by our hostess Renata and what a joy to see Kiera tuck into a poitrine du canard (steak to her) and Frites. I did start off with valiant efforts to translate the menu but thankfully we were rescued by the owner just as I thought I was ordering breast of porcupine! No doubt Robert will detail the culinary delights in his update when he recovers from his afternoons indulgence.
To follow on from Robert’s last entry I feel I have to make a few clarifications – yes, he did whip me at ping pong, but only because he was cheating and smashing the ball at me McEnroe style – where’s the fun in that?? And he appears to have omitted the fact that I smashed him at table football, while Kiera looked on somewhat bewildered – round two tonight GAME ON!
Love & Hugs to all, K, K, & R xxx
